Background of Mukuwapasi Children’s Centre
The Mukuwapasi Children’s Centre (Centre) was established in 1952 by two missionaries, Guy and Clinton Brook, and later merged into the association now known as the Jairos Jiri Association. The center became one of the association’s branches. The late Mr. Jairos Jiri M.B.E. M.A. (Hon) in his great work, which he and others, including the late Mrs. Margaret Chiwandamira, started long ago, as early as 1950, continued with the center’s operations focusing on the rehabilitation of children with disabilities (CWDs). Mrs. Margaret Chiwandamira, who was running Mukwapasi Clinic, approached Mr. Jiri for help, and Mukwapasi Clinic was incorporated. Mrs. Chiwandamira became the 9th Founder Life Vice President of the association. The center is located in St. Faith’s Communal Land, 13km out of Rusape Town. It is registered as a welfare organization under the Welfare Organization Act of 1966. Its registration number is W.O 327/68. The center can accommodate 100 children, but currently, the enrollment is 71. The children come from all over the country. The space is limited by the dormitories being used by the nurses.
